Internet Specific Organisations
There are some non-governmental organisations that are specific to the internet. These organisations play a significant role in the changing world that the internet will always be.
W3C
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) develops interoperable technologies (specifications, guidelines, software, and tools) to lead the Web to its full potential. W3C is a forum for information, commerce, communication, and collective understanding.
The W3C developed, maintains and updates the standards for the main mark up languages used on the internet today. The W3C is also the developer of the Website Accessibility Initiative. The Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) develops strategies, guidelines, and resources to help make the Web accessible to people with disabilities.
Nominet
Nominet is the Internet registry for .uk domain names. In addition to maintaining the register of all .uk domain names they also offer a range of associated services, including renewing registrations every two years and administering transfers of domain names between parties.
